What to eat at Mexican restaurants when you’re watching your calories

Mexican food is inherently a really good choice if you’re cutting your intake.  Not American Mexican, but really authentically, typical Mexican home-style cooking.

Which has:

  1. No sour cream.
  2. No cheese.
  3. No crunchy crispy fried anything.
  4. No pre-meal bowl of chips.

Instead it has:

  • Rather small portions.
  • Vegetables.
  • Complex carbs,  if you want some carbs.
  • Steamed, grilled, baked instead of fried.

And overall it’s  eaten with the implicit knowledge that you will be eating again soon.  You don’t have to eat everything you want to eat, all in the same trip, and you don’t have to eat enough that you’re not nicely hungry at your next meal time.
