How can I tell how many calories are in my home cooked food?

We are ALL ABOUT cooking for yourself. You pick up total control over what’s in your food and where your ingredients come from.  You can use higher quality ingredients and still pay less.

Though you do lose the ability to look at the back of the box and know how many calories to log.

Not a problem. We’ve blogged this before, but in case you missed it, just paste your recipe here: Calorie Count :: New Recipe and let it calculate you a complete Nutrition Facts label.  Make sure it indicates it recognizes each ingredient, be really honest about the number of servings your recipe makes, and there you have it.  Caloric truthfulness.
