Product review: Ezekiel 4:9 Sprouted Grain Cereal

Food for Life is one of those companies that brings it all home … minimally processed foods, without added weirdness, and great tasting products too.  You may already be familiar with their Ezekiel 4:9 concept — taking one of the few complete recipes in the Bible and lovingly prepare it (we should point out that, in context, the recipe isn’t meant to be a superfood recipe; read the paragraph surrounding the verse, it may be a bit of a shocker).

They took this basic multi-grain recipe, and modified it by using sprouted grain — just like it says, grain allowed to sprout slightly and then ground with the sprouts.  It’s not gluten free (they have other products that are specifically labeled as gluten free) but some people with wheat sensitivity are able to tolerate sprouted grains.  And it’s good.

We’ve been fans of their loaves of bread (store it in the freezer, there’s no preservatives!) and English muffins (ditto) and have lately branched out to include their cereal too.  It’s a little on the Grape Nuts end of the spectrum, does not get soggy, and it’s really good with fresh fruit on top.   Layered in a parfait glass with fat free yogurt and fruit and fruit, it’s absolutely GOOD.

With 8 grams of protein for only 190 calories for the all-cereal variety, it’s an excellent start to the day.    We’re giving it an “A”.
