Everyone has something they can teach you

So thankful to not only be alive, to be free from major pain or health issues this Thanksgiving. Here’s something I am beginning to pick up on — you probably already knew, I’m slow that way.

Everyone you meet has something they can add to your journey through life.

The photo below is one of my favorites:

This is Mostar, Bosnia. I was there right after the end of the Bosnian war when the beautiful peaked bridge was being rebuilt, along with many of the buildings nearby that had been shelled in the process of taking out the bridge.

Out of view down the road on the left bank is a refugee camp where a really pleasant homeless lady taught me to make Turkish coffee correctly.  Here in the picture, toward the end of the last row of buildings on the left is where I watched the Turkish coffee pots being finished and learned what makes the coffee taste so good.

And over on the right bank, oh man, over on the right bank those tables with the big awning across the top are at a restaurant with a huge outdoor grill that makes food worth the 12 hour plane flight.  And if you ask, they’ll show you how to really use a grill.  Not in English, but the preparation of great food has a way of transcending language. Fantastic.

The point being, everyone I met in Mostar contributed to who I am becoming.  Everyone has something to add to me, and I hopefully have something small to add back to them.  It’s amazing.  God puts people together at the right time, in the right place, for the right reason, and all we have to do is pay attention to it.

Be thankful today.  And go see what someone has for you and what you might have for them.
