Christmas gifts for weight losers — continued

Today, BOOKS.  I have an entire book shelf full of books which do nothing at all to advance the cause, and a small collection of books I return to over and over as being absolutely, totally, correct, motivational, positive, and meaningful toward the weight loss journey.

At the top of that list is a truly remarkable book by my friend and colleague in all good things, Nick Yphantides.  Nick was perhaps the fattest physician ever, and lost 270 pounds in one carefully planned and lovingly executed baseball season.  Never take weight loss advice from someone who does not have personal experience with losing weight and keeping it off.  It’s like taking your car to a mechanic who’s never seen one.

For a really entertaining and insightful read on the value of different foods in your overall dietary approach, I’d skip the This not That series in favor of a the always totally ground Marian Nestle.  All her books are worth reading, from descriptions of the macronutrient variations from one hybrid of a plant to another, to the value of organic or not, to unique research on where pet food comes from.

Tomorrow, more books.
