Why are old people thin?

A new study (UNC Chapel Hill; sorry no link because it’s subscription-required) confirms again the long-studied decrease in obesity after age 60. And it’s not because old people get thin, it’s because thin people get to live past their 60’s in much larger numbers than obese people.

Let me ask you a pointed question. If you’re obese, and your life expectancy is thus 60’s, how many years do you have left to live fat?

If you lose the weight, statistically you gain 15 years of living in good health past that time.

What are you waiting for? How long do you have left to get it done?
