We get what we get, on purpose

Fascinating new study out this week, saying that 90% of Americans believe some foods have functional benefits beyond basic nutritional content, and a full 70% of Americans believe eating more fruits and vegetables leads to better overall health.

Yet fruit and vegetable consumption has not increased at all since 2005.

In other words, there is not a knowledge problem.  People know what to do.  There is a DOING problem.  If we know our health suffers if we don’t do something, and we don’t do it, we are choosing that path for ourselves on purpose.  It’s not the fault of our genes, our  metabolism, our upbringing, our hurtful past, or anything else other than the one problem we’re being trained by our culture to avoid … which is, laying the blame for our problems squarely on our own shoulders.
